iPhone 5S Production to Start This Quarter

Apple will begin production of its iPhone 5S sometime during this quarter, according to the latest news. The Wall Street Journal’s unnamed sources claimed that the next-gen iPhone will be similar in size and appearance to the iPhone 5, suggesting the refreshed model will indeed be the much rumored “iPhone 5S” many are expecting to announce this year.

The most reliable news to date suggests Apple’s new iPhone 5S will release in July or August alongside a second entry-level model that will help expand Apple’s market share in current markets. The Journal also said that the cheaper iPhone in its report, reporting that “the 4-inch device will likely use a different casing from the higher-end iPhone.”
The report also claimed Apple may be testing “different color shells” for its new cheaper iPhone, but didn’t reveal that the smartphone phone will actually release with new color options. Previously reports rumored the iPhone 5S might launch with new colors as well.

Apple Ready to Drop Samsung for iPad Mini Display Supplier

David Hsieh, NPD DisplaySearch Greater China region vice president, reportedly said on Thursday that Apple will rely at least in part on Innolux for touch panels in the next iPad mini.
“Innolux and China’s Century Display will receive certificates for product qualification [from Apple] to supply [touch panels] for the iPad mini,” Taipei Times quoted Hsieh as saying.

Yan Chiu-lien, the head of Innolux’s touch panel division, said that the company will pay much more attention on smartphones and tablets in 2013, with a goal of shipping 7-inch screens within the year. Innolux has been a supplier for Apple’s full-size iPads since 2008. The components the company produces are expected to own its touch-on-display technology.
Meanwhile, DigiTimes quotos Korean-based media reports claiming that Apple has not yet submitted a request for quotation (RFQ) to Samsung Display for components. The rumor is that Apple will instead opt to source components from LG Display, Sharp, Japan Display, and AU Optronics for the iPad mini.
It is well known that Apple has relied on Samsung as a supplier of lots of components in its hot sale products, even the two companies competed both in court and the market. Currently, the iPhone maker has sought to diversify its suppliers, in order not to contribute to the bottom line of its competitor and to keep Samsung from becoming privy to Apple’s plans.

Apple iOS 6.1.3 issues
Just after Apple released the iOS 6.1.3 to fix a security problem that let someone access the iPhone by sneaking past the lock screen, new problems of the update also seem to have plagued some users, who are complaining that the battery inside their devices isn’t lasting as long as before.
Several Apple iPhone and iPad users posted on Apple Support Communities that the battery drains faster after installing the new update even when the device is not in use. It seems that users are losing battery power at a rate of 1% every 7 minutes. Furthermore, some users have posted that their battery went from full to dead in just 3 hours.
Another iOS 6.1.3 issue is the Wi-Fi connectivity. Several users in the Apple forum show their Wi-Fi connections are grayed out or inoperative. This particular issue has been around since iOS 6.0. Some say the problem was fixed with iOS 6.1.2 but came back with 6.1.3, while some say it was resolved with 6.1.3. Apple has acknowledged the problem and offers a support page with suggestions on resolving it. But if the issue cannot be resolved after these steps, you need to contact Apple and your wireless carrier.
Now that Apple is aware of these problems, we hope Apple will push out anther update to fix these problems.
