Confirmation: Apple Will be Releasing Lower Range Models

When something is happening in the cellphone business, we here at ETrade Supply are often the first to know. You may remember 11 months ago, we showed you the first real images of the iPhone 5, or 3 months ago the first parts from the Blackberry Z10. Well we just heard “on the wind” confirmation that Apple will in fact be releasing lower end models.
This is not the game changing move that we are used to from Apple which had kept them on top for so many years. But after disappointing sales figures from the iPhone 5, and not much being expected form the iPhone 5S, Apple needs a new strategy. So it has been suspected for a while that they may eventually release low to mid-range models to make up for lost market share until they can come up with a new innovative idea.

Game Changing Rumours. iTV?
Since Steve Jobs died, there doesn’t seem to be much life at Apple. Rumous of iTV have been around for a while, The china daily even said that Terry Gou the president of Foxconn, told them “Foxconn is making preparations for iTV”. Now even if this is true, how great of a product will it be? Hartfordbusiness.com says “…could get Apple back to its history of radical innovation.” But today, most people know how to hook-up their TV to a computer and download tones of content; this combined with Hulu will keep most people satisfied. So as far as innovation goes, this doesn’t seem like the game changer that will get Apple needs.
The iPhone was a Game Changer and stayed at the top until recently, but only because it was a first-to-market product and had a great brand. The sharks at Samsung knew this and did not sit by idly while Apple had a brain freeze. Instead they started offering cheaper and better products, and they also tackled the branding issue by spending a cool 10 billion. In 2012 Samsung spent 4.3 billion on advertising, more than Apple, HP, Microsoft and Coca-Cola combined, as well as 5.4 billion on sales, promotion and marketing. Money well spent. (All while delivering new popular and timely apps missing on the iPhone.)
So now the story is, Apple needs to make money somewhere and keep the brand alive while they wait for a new idea. So by releasing lower end models they plan to recapture market share, hold interest in their OS and keep investors happy. We all know what happens if you are off in the woods picking blackberries instead of doing something innovative or profitable. So Apple probably won’t find another Steve Jobs like mind anytime soon, but this may keep them in the race for market share.  Will Apple take command of their destiny, and Global Market Share, once again? Will Apple invent and be first to market with the next generation Consumer Electronics Game Changer? Or is it too late and history will note the impending low end release as an MBA spreadsheet contrived “A race to the bottom”.

Apple iPhone 6 To Be Launched in June 2014

According to Jefferies analyst Peter Misek, the new Apple iPhone 6 will be launched in the summer of 2014. The new iPhone 6 is said to have a larger screen and new competitive features like an upgraded processor, improved camera, and more colors to choose from.

If the iPhone 6 will really be coming out in summer 2014, why would customers buy the iPhone 5S which will probably be released in just a few months? Perhaps the new range of colors and improvements in performance will make people not want to wait. Then less than a year later the probable larger screen on the iPhone 6 will most likely make people buy a new phone again.
But Apple CEO Tim cook says that bigger screens are hurting the vendors of smartphone devices, so don’t expect the iPhone 6 screen to be like that of a phablet. He says that the “tradeoffs” in are larger screen are in the packaging and shipping. And that apple would not make the display much larger until these “tradeoffs” no longer existed.
So we can expect new colors and improved performance with the iPhone 5s, as well as a possible fingerprint scanner. And the iPhone 6 should also have these options and a larger display which should help sell a new model so soon after the 5s hits the market. And unknown to which device, it is likely that Apple iPhone will disclose a mobile payment platform that will use third-party clearing and Apple’s Passbook service as the base, as reported by the Financial Post.

iPhone Found to Be Most Vulnerable to Virus

The Latest news suggests that Apple’s iPhone is more “vulnerable” to attacks than Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices. A study from SourceFire claims that most of mobile phone vulnerabilities have been discovered so far.

The company found 210 vulnerabilities in the iPhone, giving iOS an 81% share of known mobile phone vulnerabilities, while Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices combined to have a 19% market share. A senior research engineer Yves Younan at SourceFire’s Vulnerabilities Research Team and author of the report, told ZDNet that the results were “surprising.” He also said that it was also “interesting” as additional security features has been implement in new versions of iOS.

He explained that while Android may have the highest all mobiles’ market share, iPhones are still one of the most popular smartphones in the world and cybercriminals are motivated to find loopholes in the operating system.
Younan noted that because Google’s platform is already open and vulnerable to third-party and malicious apps in its Google Play store, cybercriminals are less motivated to seek out software vulnerabilities.
